ASC Rotary
Atomizers
Our newest distributorship, the ASC Rotary
Atomizer, originally developed by industry legend Mr. Cal
Butler, is now currently produced by the Curtis Agri-Line
Company in Westfield Indiana, and distributed in Canada
by us at Yorkton Aircraft.
Main Features:
- Superior coverage by accurate droplet control,
allowing reduction in chemical and carrier.
- Double shut off design provides instant chemical
flow cut-off reducing the possibility of over-spraying non
target area.
- Adjustable Droplet Size ranging from 50-800 microns
VMD
- Adjustable Flow Settings are easily done with the
Variable Output Restrictor giving you the convenience of
one of 6 flow settings (or shut off) without touching the
nozzle.
What are the advantages to this atomizer?
1. Price - the cost of the units is approximately 25% less than the competition and when you consider that for an aircraft set, it amounts to a considerable savings.
2. Greater capacity - the maximum flow per atomizer for an AU5000 is 25 L/min. An ASC can handle much higher volumes per unit. This means in certain cases, you need less units, meaning you spend less (a type of compound savings here!) The versatility to handle flow rates from ultra-low up to high volume increases their working potential for you. The present range of the ASC-A10 is 0.13 GPM, through to a range of 18GPM per nozzle depending on the aircraft plumbing system. (0-68 liters/minute)
3. Simplicity in use and construction - meaning less maintenance and fewer replacement parts. When parts are needed they are at lower cost. All this = even more SAVINGS!
4. Sustainability - made from corrosive resistant materials; the perforated sleeve is less vulnerable to damage than the competitor's gauze cage; blades are made from high strength graphite; the heavy duty sealed bearings are the best on the market, highly affordable and can be changed by the operator (no need to ship to the factory for replacement).
5. Aerodynamics-designed with a shape that lends itself to the least amount of drag; units are lightweight (4 lbs. including mounting bracket) yet structural integrity has not been compromised.
6. Increased Production-droplets of more even size allow the use of less chemical and less carrier. Superior coverage is produced, more production is possible. Win-win. Controlling both spectrum and size we gain better plant coverage and more effective chemical action.
ASC's ability to produce uniform
droplet sizes, whether uniformly large or uniformly small,
is giving this product line tremendous momentum.

ASC DATA,
RESEARCH & TEST RESULTS
Where is the proof that this atomizer can perform
just as good or better than the competition?
Wind Tunnel Test Complete
In January 2004, Curtis Dyna-Fog contracted the University
of Queensland to test the droplet spectra generated by an
ASC-A10 Nozzle spraying Foray 76B in order to determine
the blade settings that generate an VMD of 100 microns in
an airstream of 120 and 140 mph at flow rates of 8 and 16
liters/minute.
The main intent of the study was to determine the blade
settings that generate an VMD of 100 microns in an airstream
of 120 and 140 mph at flow rates of 8 and 16 liters/minute.
This data was in turn used to develop a model to predict
droplet size based on user defined inputs of formulation,
aircraft speed, flow rate and windmill blade angle setting.
Droplet Size Prediction Model Complete
The model, which was successfully developed in August 2004,
calculates for the user the droplet size parameters of D(v0.1)
, D(v0.5) and D(v0.9), relative
span and droplet size classification category (according
to the standard ASAE S-571).
The sprayer can then make a decision on optimal blade angle
for obtaining specific droplet size ranges, to meet label
and application requirements for example.
Desired Droplet Size for Various Applications:
Forestry Applications: 85 - 100 microns
Insect Control: 100 - 300 microns
Fungicide Control: 150 - 300 microns
Herbicide Control: 450 - 800 microns

technical papers on both the wind tunnel test and the
droplet spectrum prediciton model are also available. Want these? Email us too!
Need a glossary? We have one. All of this technical
jargon can be confusing: microns, volume median diameter,
relative span, D(v0.1), D(v0.5) and
D(v0.9),

Stand up to the Ag Environment?
Remember, these atomizers were originally developed by an
Ag Pilot. The blades are made of graphite, the heavy
duty sealed bearings are the best available on the market,
and they can be replaced in the field by the operator.
You don't have to send your unit back to the factory for
servicing. The sleeve is not guaze so it is
not as suspectible to damage. Their lightweight design
reduces drag but structural integrity has not been compromised.
Can you think of a reason not to try these atomizers?
